Making an Impact in 2022

Year in Review

Home to almost 500 funds, The Foundation supports all aspects of the community from healthcare to the arts; education to animal welfare; housing and food security to equity and diversity. This can be found in the form of sponsorships, grants, scholarships, and direct support to agencies and individuals.

Our various types of funds make it possible to increase our reach into all facets of our local area. Our community project funds function as micro non-profits meeting needs in the community where gaps in services exist. The Foundation serves as the fiscal agent for several state and federal grant programs providing additional support for homelessness, addiction, mental health, and aging.  Donor-advised funds allow local philanthropists to support worthy causes both locally and internationally, and our more than $28 million in endowments ensure many of these causes will receive funding beyond the scope of our lifetimes.

Supporting Local Nonprofits

We are proud to work with local nonprofits and funds of The Foundation to help them achieve their mission through our Community Impact Grants. Since 2016, we have awarded over $200,000 to organizations in Madison County through this grant program. It is inspiring to partner with organizations and see the completion of their special projects, new programs, and more that make a positive impact on our community.

Last year, The Foundation awarded $50,000 to four organizations in Madison County:

The Boys & Girls Club - To fund a program to support youth fitness called "Jumpstart Jackson"
Habitat for Humanity - To fund a program to help elderly home owners with home repairs
RIFA - To fund the mobile meal service "Bus Stop Cafe"
Mother/Baby Unit at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital - To fund the purchase of sleep sacks for infants born a JMCGH to promote safe sleep practices and reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS)

Habitat for Humanity received $15,000 from our 2021-2022 Community Impact Grants for its Aging in Place program.

"Habitat Jackson has been able to provide completed critical repairs to seven homeowners and their families in Madison County resulting in a $66,735 impact for nine individuals."

The repairs included key accessibility modifications, such as the installation of a ramp and handrails to enter and exit the home safely, chair-height toilets, new back steps, and grabs bars, as well as the reduction of trip hazards through new floor supports. Air quality was also improved the installation of a vapor barrier, window weather-stripping, and the installation of a new roof. These repairs made it possible for the homeowners to retain their independence and safety while continuing to create memories.

Another amazing project funded through last year's grants was focused on trying to reduce the number of lives that are lost due to sleep-related infant deaths. The Foundation awarded the Mother-Baby Unit $10,000 to provide sleep sacks for babies born at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. The funding allowed the Mother-Baby Unit at the Women's Center to provide parent educational materials and distribute Halo sleep sacks to approximately 1,080 newborns in their care from October 2021 to March 2022.
